Donnie Wahlberg, a member of the reunited musical group New Kids on the Block, will try to open people's ears to the need for life insurance.

Wahlberg, the 39-year-old singer, actor and producer, will be the front man for national Life Insurance Awareness Month in September, sharing his family's story in public appearances and interviews.

His sister Debbie died at 44 with no life insurance, leaving a 16-year-old son. He was taken care of by his extended family, which includes actor Mark Wahlberg ("The Perfect Storm," "The Departed"). But most families aren't as fortunate.

"With an upcoming album and tour, as well as a new movie, it may seem like I don't have a worry in the world, but I realize it could all be over tomorrow," Donnie Wahlberg said in a press release. Drawing up a financial plan with an adviser, "life insurance was a no-brainer," he added.
