Kyobo Life CEO to Attend Global Insurers' Meeting

Kyobo Life Insurance CEO Shin Chang-jae is making a notable move in the global financial market, strengthening ties with global financial leaders.
The insurer, one of the top three players in the industry, said its CEO is attending the 35th General Assembly of the Geneva Association. The Geneva Association, or International Association for the Study of Insurance, is a research group organized by 80 CEOs of major global insurers. It holds the assembly each year to discuss key issues of the industry. Shin was specially invited to the assembly this year, held in Bermuda from Wednesday.
On hand at the meeting will be CEOs of the global insurance industry, including AIG President & CEO Martin Sullivan and Swiss Re CEO Jacques Aigrain. They will discuss major issues facing the industry such as the global credit crisis, regulation for financial services, International Financial Reporting Standards and Solvency II, and demographic changes.
Shin is scheduled to attend the whole session of the assembly, exchanging ideas with CEOs of major insurance companies around the world.
The Kyobo CEO accompanied President Lee Myung-bak on his visit to the United States in March. He was the first insurance CEO to attend a Presidential visit overseas.
Shin, a former medical professor of Seoul National University, also paid visits to major life insurers in the United States last year, including MetLife and Prudential Life Insurance, to benchmark their strategies in the retirement pension insurance market. He also gave a special lecture at Peking University in December, the first insurance CEO to do so.
The series of moves on the global level seem to reflect Shin's determination to enhance Kyobo's business competitiveness in the global market.
